3 Mills Hosts Creative Skillset Open Doors

Creative Skillset Open DoorsOn Wednesday 14th June 3 Mills Studios welcomed Creative Skillset once again for their Open Doors event.

Open Doors is a series of events run by Creative Skillset. They provide valuable opportunities for trainees to meet businesses and find out what they’re looking for in new talent and network with industry professionals and like-minded peers.

The event consisted of a panel talk and Q&A with 4 industry professionals followed by pizza and networking. The panel was hosted by 3 Mills Studios’ Head of Sales and Marketing, Paul de Carvalho, and consisted of:

Binita Wilton, Camera Dept, One Stop Films

Binita is a recent film school graduate with experience in camera operations and assisting directors of photography. Other skills include editing and a certain amount of business and marketing skills to adhere to in productions. Binita works in the camera department at One Stop Films, which requires her to do a lot of travelling. She often has to travel to sets to help set up the cameras and offer advice on lenses. Binita enjoys her role as it means she gets to be a lot more hands on with the technology than if she was working for a production.

Hana White, Casting Researcher, Masterchef

Hana’s role at Masterchef includes interviewing applicants, setting up auditions in London and regionally, interviewing at audition stage, compiling candidate summaries, full page biogs and obtaining chef references. On location for filming of backstories. Speaking to all level of professional chefs, from newly-qualified cooks up to michelin star level chefs.

John Adams, CEO, Evolutionary Films

John Adams is a film entrepreneur whose focus is primarily on the business side of the industry. An ex-Army Officer, he launched the first agency in the UK to provide military advice and support to the entertainment industry and has acted as a consultant to Hollywood blockbusters including Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers, The Queen, Doom and X-Men. Over the last 15 years, John has amassed 79 production credits (27 as a producer) on projects with budgets ranging from under £50k to over £100m. According to a recently published study, he produced two of the top 50 grossing British films made for under £500k during the period 2008-2014 in terms of world box office revenues.

Kirsten Eller, Freelance Line Producer

Kirsten is a freelance Line Producer working in television drama on projects such as The Enfield Haunting and Marcella.  Her production career began in 1991 as an unpaid runner on a BBC drama called ‘Growing Pains’ whilst still studying for her degree in Media Production.   After leaving University her first paid work in television was as Production Secretary on a BBC Arts programme.  From there she spent 5 years working her way from Production Assistant to Production Manager on commercials. Moving over to television drama in 1999 working first as Production Co-ordinator then moving up to line producing.

The event was a success and was thoroughly informative for all the attendees. Thank you to our panel who gave a great insight into their careers and how they got to where they are now. We’re looking forward to the next Creative Skillset Open Doors event!
