BAFTA Masterclass: The Making of National Treasure

On Thursday 28th September 3 Mills Studios supported the BAFTA Masterclass: The Making of National Treasure, held at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly. This event was held as part of our continuing partnership with BAFTA and our endeavours to educate individuals interested in working in the film & television industry.

Earlier this year 3 Mills Studios sponsored the Director: Drama category at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, which was won by Marc Munden of National Treasure. This then led to our involvement in supporting this event, with the help of BAFTA.

Based on Operation Yewtree, National Treasure examines the public and private impact of historical sexual offence accusations against a fictional, much-loved public figure. Channel 4’s four-part drama is written by BAFTA-winner Jack Thorne and stars Dame Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Andrea Riseborough and Tim McInnerny. The hit show garnered seven BAFTA nominations, winning for Best Mini-Series, Best Director and Best Original Music.

The panel hosted by Briony Hanson included:

BAFTA-winning director, Marc Munden

BAFTA-nominated editor, Luke Dunkley

BAFTA-nominated cinematographer, Ole Bratt Birkeland

Actor, Tim McInnerny

It was a great evening and was a wonderful opportunity for our guests to hear about the various aspects of creating a BAFTA winning programme. The Q&A at the end was full of intelligent questions from the audience, and was a great opportunity for those starting off in the industry to find out a bit more about each role. Thank you to the panel, who were all incredibly interesting and each brought something different to the panel – it was great to get an understanding of the programme from several sides! Thank you also to all who came.
